The launch it before being painted completely above the water line, in order to free the dock, where it was built, for a new ship. Many shipyards around the world are so busy that there is a long que of ships waiting to be built.

The paint doesn't dissolve. It diliutes, still polluting. And bottom paint is very toxic! It is called Iron Oxide and ask anyone who has had to remove it, how toxic it is. Yes I have owned small ocean boats and yes, I have had to repaint. Topside paint is far less toxic. But this video's ship's bottom was not fully painted, and that makes me wonder why the launch? I don't think you can paint underwater yet.

modern ships have to be antifouled (paint on the bottom of ships) with copper based paint as there is too much pollution from the iron based. the ship wasn't fully painted but will at some stage be put into a dry dock for survey and final painting before handing over to the owners.

reminds me of the glory days when every ship was launched like this. As for aa209999, they can't paint it on dry land because if the paint drips, it'll make a big mess. If it drips in the water, it'll dissolve. Plus, the painters are safer painting over water because hard land=ouch, whereas water=swim away

serious question.. why dont they paint it when its on dry land?

yup, it's more dangerous for launching but it's cheaper then build a drydock
